Food to eat at Hearst Castle, San Simeon California? You don't need to go anywhere to get something to eat or drink when you take your Hearst Castle. My very first job in 1963 or 1964 was at the Hearst Castle Snack Bar Concession; the hamburgers there were great and served up fast. I can tell you first hand William Randolph Hearst California State Historic Monument has always had good food and drink available quickly right on site; Aramark has for some time now been providing good food and drink and even a museum gift shop for your use and enjoyment when you visit Hearst Castle; be sure to leave lots of time before and after your Hearst Castle Tour to enjoy some good food, drink and souvenir gift shopping.

The Refectory is a self service grab-n-go deli, offering sandwiches, wraps, and salads made fresh Daily. A selection of baked goods, desserts, ice cream, packaged sweets and snacks are available. The Coffee n Go Bar in the Refectory offers espresso drinks, Italian sodas, hot tea and a selection of locally packed pastries. Coffee N Go Hearst Castle Espresso Bar is open 8am-5pm daily.
Chiefs Galley Restaurant -
The cafe serves casual international fare and boasts the use of organic locally raised Hearst Beef. Menu choices include a self serve soup station with extensive condiment bar, pasta, pizza, hand tossed salads, Asian rice bowls, and grilled items. Hearst Castle Visitors Center Chiefs Galley Restaurant is open 10:30AM-4:30PM daily.
Camp Hill BBQ - Open daily in the Summer and during peak holidays when weather permits Camp Hill BBQ is located in the Hearst Castle Visitors Center courtyard. Some menu items are BBQ chicken quarters, tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs, entrees may be ordered a la carte or as a meal with housemade ranch beans, cole slaw, and garlic bread. Camp Hill BBQ also has a selection of ice cream and packaged snacks.

You can have some seafood pasta but don't look for the beef at the Sea Chest Restaurant, this is strictly a seafood restaurant with a fun oyster bar. If you want to be assured good seating early you will have to stand in line prior to the restaurant opening at 5:30 or there is a comfy game room should you miss this nightly pre-dinner line up ritual and have to wait for your table. |

Important January 2009 Update; OPEN AGAIN: Sebastian's General Store and Café as it is now called is open again and can serve you a wonderful lunch featuring free range Hearst beef and including wine and beer; even if you are not hungary it is a must stop even if it is just to browse their eclectic collection of antiques some of which are for sale. They are currently remodeling the kitchen to include a grill so the menu will again change and I will try to get back to this page to update. When I spoke with them they were offering both indoor and outdoor seating from 11AM to 4PM except Monday you may want to call Sebastian's General Store and Café to get the latest information: 805-927-3307.
Historic Sebastian's (1852) a California State historical monument in San Simeon, California is regretfully closed and the Sebestians Historic Store has been a general store, gift shop, fast food grill, bed & breakfast and has offered a coffeehouse with tasty deserts in the past but what is next?
Historic Sebastian's Store (1852) in the old village of San Simeon as of April 2, 2008 is closed for restoration and remodeling; it will it no doubt offer something to eat in near Hearst Castle when it reopens. Besides the food concessions at Hearst Castle Visitors Center it has been the only business which I would consider actually in San Simeon that offers anything to eat, the other eating establishments closest to Hearst Castle are south on Pacific Coast Highway 1 about 3 miles in the "motel strip town" locals have always called San Simeon Acres. In times past Sebastian's has offered a variety of things to eat; at one time they had an incredible grill and awesome hamburger; at times I have purchased delicious whole chicken slow roasted on a spit; most recently they have offered delicious deserts and gourmet espresso coffee and tea drinks. It is not obvious what they might offer to eat but historically it has always offered a good option to purchase food near Hearst Castle. |
